Apr 18, 2006 HP photosmart 3210/3310. Thread starter puckhead193; Start date Apr 14. Also is it iPhoto/mac friendly? Hows the scanner, I have a lot of photo from trip and stuff (negatives) that I would like to scan in? I haven't yet played with it in the store, but how big is it? I just buy hp esp but unable to install the proper software.

Bottom Line
The Photosmart 3310 has everything we expect to find in a photocentric all-in-one, including the ability to scan 35-mm slides and film. But it also works as a standalone copier and fax machine, and offers excellent speed and reasonably high quality for both business applications and photos.

In addition, the 3310 works as a standard flatbed scanner, a standalone fax machine and copier, and a modem that lets you fax from a PC. The device earns extra points for included drivers that enable scanning and faxing over a USB connection and a network. Wireless networking—802.11g—is even built in. Included dual paper trays, with one specifically for 4- by 6-inch stock, are another nice touch, letting you switch between photo printing and plain paper output without changing paper.
Setup on a network is straightforward. Put the AIO into an 8.7 by 18.3 by 15.6-inch (HWD) spot that can hold 26.5 pounds, load paper and the six ink cartridges—cyan, yellow, magenta, black, light cyan, and light magenta—and plug in the network cable. The fully automated installation program takes care of everything else, including the network and fax setup.
Performance on our tests was excellent. The 3310 ran our business applications suite (timed with QualityLogic's hardware and software, www.qualitylogic.com) in 15 minutes 42 seconds, just a smidgen slower than the MP760, which took 15:27 (the fastest time to date for a photo AIO). On our photo suite, the 3310 essentially tied the MP760 for first, averaging 1:06 for each 4-by-6 and 2:36 for each 8-by-10.
Output quality is also a close match to that of the MP760, with scores ranging from good to the high end of very good, although the Canon printer scored a bit better for text, hitting the high end of good. The 3310 earned a good rating, with text easily readable at 5 points or smaller for most fonts, and two highly stylized fonts needing 12 points. Unless you need to print at unusually small sizes, text output should be more than adequate.

Graphics, at the high end of good, were easily good enough for output you'd bring into the office from home. If you switch to high-quality mode, prints are marginally good enough for handing out to customers or clients you want to impress with your professionalism. Thin lines tend to get lost, though.
Most photos were true photo quality or close, earning the 3310 a rating at the high end of very good despite a slight tint in our monochrome test photo. And with HP's new inks and paper, output is water-resistant, although it can still show water stains.
The 3310's constellation of features can make it a good choice as an all-purpose AIO if you don't deal with multipage input—the transparency adaptor for slides doesn't leave room for an automatic document feeder (ADF). With a lot of pages, positioning each on the flatbed will get tiresome quickly. But for people who have a particular interest in photos and a big enough budget, this AIO can serve nicely in the home or a part-time home office, especially if you want to connect to a network.
