Microtek Scanner Drivers. Yeah we all know they're not so great on OS X (an understatement, of course!). I have an X12 USL and have been unable to find an update more recent than version 7.11. In searching for an answer, I found this link on the Netherlands Microtek site, which has a link on it called Can't find my driver!. This link directs you to the Singapore Microtek Driver download page -- truly the word wide web, eh?
Anyway, there is a version 7.22 there that works with Panther, whoo hooo! You have to first manually uninstall all the other Microtek drivers, though. There is a further driver update there for the X12 USL ScanMaker as well.
It works. That's all I can say. Thought I'd share the info, as the Microtek scanner saga with OS X is not so nice, and will any Mac owners ever buy a new Microtek scanner? I don't think so...
[robg adds:This older hint contains an alternative method of installing Microtek drivers. Note that I haven't tested either hint, as I don't have a Microtek scanner.]
Update: An anonymous tipster wrote in saying 'Microtek has an open ftp (ftp://ftp.microtek.com) site that has newer versions (beta) than they post on their site. I have used these over the years to keep my 5700 running. Use at your own risk.'

Microtek has released ScanWizard Pro 7.0 software specifically for its ScanMaker 8700 Pro Design scanner. If you're going to grab it, though, you had better do it quick: Microtek said that for two. While i really appreciate hints like this (i struggled myself about the scanmaker drivers not available for Panther), microtek is now offering a Panther-compatible driver update.

You may find it here:
microtek.nl
(this is the european site, but it's also availble at microtekusa.com)

'This version is currently only availble in the English language. Other languages will be added soon.'

I just went to the Microtek USA website. I am not able to find the Panther version of the driver for my Scan Maker 4900. Will download from Europe instead.

How about providing an exact link location?

I found a Page on Panther Drivers at the NL site.

Maybe this will help.

I also have Microtek scanner, actually two of them. After I upgraded to Panther I got a spinning beach ball. I tried a fix you sugested but it did not resolve my problem. I still got a spinning beach ball. I went to Microtek's site and printed their instructions. Now, I am able to scan. There are two flaws in the above instructions: One, an install with out removing a previously installed version, will take you right back to aspinning beach ball. so it must be done first. Two, since I have two scanners I have to install three packaged to get both scanners to work, instead of just one install of the whole package.

Microtek Scanmaker 8700 Software Machine

Tried using 'sw5_v701_macx_jag.dmg' but found no file
'SM4700-SW5 V1.00.pkg' needed for my ScanMaker 4700 scanner.
Followed 1-6 in lipids Feb 6 post with these three exceptions
(1) Before installing the drivers, trashed all files, folders, aliases with names containing 'scanwizard' and 'microtek'. See Microtek KB-00012 section Uninstalling ScanWizard from Your Macintosh.
(2) Downloaded 'sw_5_v711_macx_jag.dmg'. It's 70MB total.
(3) Installed only 'ScanWizard 5 V7.11.pkg' and for me 'SM4700-SW5 V1.01.pkg' from the 'Packages' folder.
So far scans using ScanWizard 5 Version 7.11 have been OK under Panther ( 10.3.2 ).

New driver SW5-Full-Installer-V7.16.dmg. Does not work! This scanner will work on a PC but not a Mac. Keep getting error -143 what ever that is. Tried Microteks install method several times, get same erroe.

Anyone still reading this? I have a 3600 that I'd like to use. I'd rather not buy a new scanner if I can get this one working...
If you have one and are using it with Jag/Panther, what did you do to get it to work?
Thanks
